Advise South Africa concerning Safety- Health-, Environmental- and Quality matters and investigates incidents and cooperate with SHEQ SA, taking into account South African- and local law and the requirements of customers, in order to minimise health and safety risks and contribute to the reputation of company in South Africa as a safe and high-quality organisation for all stakeholders

  1. SHEQ Policy & Procedures
  • Develop, implement and maintain the SA SHEQ policy for the OpCo, ensuring alignment with the global SHEQ policy and after consultation and conform relevant certification standards, in order to direct the SHEQ activities.
  • Implement and contribute to the development of effective Risk Assessment management strategies.
  • Train all OpCo staff in relation to SHEQ policies, practice and procedures.
  • Initiate areas for improvement for SHEQ policies or procedures and discuss these within the SHEQ SA network.
  1. SHEQ advice
  • Advise OpCo MT and terminal employees on SHEQ matters, in line with the SA SHEQ policy, and in accordance with South African - and local law and regulation, in order to enable the OpCo to take appropriate measures.
  • Provide professional expertise and advice to the OpCo, requested and self-initiated, in order to support the OpCo in solutions their business issues. Responsible for the education and ongoing skills training of all OpCo employees in order to ensure that are competent in the areas of SHEQ and License to operate.
  1. SHEQ System and reporting
  • Maintain/ensure/update your OpCo part of the uniform SA SHEQ System and a reporting system on SHEQ KPI's. Share your knowledge with the entities within South Africa.
  • Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends and propose and take remedial action where necessary.
  1. Functional Know How - Expertise and best practices
  • Build and maintain professional know how, make know how available to managers and other professionals in the network and translate know how to the specific situation, in line with business needs, in order to have best practices contributing to the business performance and compliancy with legal SHEQ requirements.
  1. Audits
  • Implement a system of regular SHEQ audits, in line with defined SA SHEQ policy and relevant rules and guidelines, in order to review compliance and advice on improvement.
  • Conduct periodic SHEQ audits within the OpCo. Discuss outcomes of audits in SHEQ SA team
  1. Troubleshooting / Incident contingency
  • Pro-actively signalize and handle SHEQ problems within the OpCo and SA network
  • Give instructions about solutions and make sure these solutions are being executed by the terminal, in order to optimize the SHEQ performance.
  1. External stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all relevant local public bodies and stakeholders and share information, in order to obtain knowledge on new regulations and to contribute to a positive reputation of South Africa.
  1. Internal network
  • Contribute to the SA SHEQ policies and guidelines. Share insights, best practices, etc. with the global SHEQ colleagues

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor in Engineering or related field required
  • Proven Management and Leadership experience
  • Preferably experience in chemical systems and construction activities.
  • +15 years of experience in an industrial environment.
  • Currently in similar role of Regional SHEQ Manager within a petro-chemical environment
