Note: The project manager reports to the contract director


Site based - cross border (Mozambique).


  1. Project - Take full control and ensure successful project delivery and maximization of margins through the delivery of your project in a safe manner, on time, within budget and to the agreed levels of quality
  2. Client -
    1. Attend all client/project manager/resident engineer meetings
    2. Develop positive relationships with the client
    3. Provide all information reasonably required by the client
  3. Responsible for co-ordinating and managing the following people, to ensure they are positively motivated and contributing to the success of your project:
    1. Quantity Surveyor
    2. Site & QA Engineers
    3. Foremen
    4. Safety/Environmental Officers
    5. Administrator/Clerks
    6. Document Controller / Project Admin support
  4. Pre-Plan - Compile, present and get approval from Manco within 1 month from contract award. Identify people and resources required to implement the project and work with Contracts Director to organise the mobilisation of people and resources as required.
  5. Construction Programme -
    1. Draw-up programme in line with pre-plan allowables/production rates
    2. Update programme weekly
    3. Incorporate change on a weekly basis
  6. Contractual Programme -
    1. Update programme weekly
    2. Incorporate change management on a weekly basis
  7. Monthly Certificate and Invoice - scrutinise and agree with site quantity surveyor before submission
  8. Monthly Programme and Cost Forecast -
    1. Do monthly forecast of programme and cost
    2. Update end of month actual versus planned (Together with QS)
  9. Daily Labour Costing - chair weekly cost meeting in which site engineer and foreman present
  10. Daily Plant Costing - chair weekly cost meeting in which site engineer and foreman present
  11. Monthly Reconciliations - Implement and sign off the following cost control reconciliations:
    1. Major materials - list to be identified
    2. Diesel/Petrol
    3. Stores/Consumables
    4. PPE issue
    5. Plant Hours
    6. Equipment Hire
    7. Labour Time Sheets
    8. Site Ledger - identify & resolve discrepancies
  12. Sub-Contractors -
    1. Appoint and sign contract/order before any work commence, ensure Contract Director is given the SC order timeously to sign, and that all S/C requirements are in place - H&S, Quality, Tax certificates, FEM etc.
    2. Agree programme
    3. Co-ordinate mobilisation
    4. Weekly progress meetings to discuss progress, safety, quality etc.
    5. Agree & sign monthly certificates for payment
  13. Supplier Management-
    1. Approval of orders up to value $ 100 000
    2. Approval of site requisitions
    3. Approval of GRN's
    4. Ensure cost clerk is performing his defined duties timeously and accurately - random checks
    5. Follow up any supplier payment issues & disputes promptly and resolve
    6. Facilitate the correct interface between the site engineers, cost clerk, and HO accounts department to ensure that correct & timeous payment is made to suppliers.
    7. Suppliers include internal suppliers - Plant Yard - to be managed to ensure they provide sufficient spares and support to the project, to the level deemed required to suit the specific project (Joint risk assessment and review to be preformed, and thereafter co-ordinated)
  14. Change Management -
    1. Notify of claims within dates as per contract requirement (Early Warnings)
    2. Submit letters with new rates after consultation with QS/CM/Commercial Manager
    3. Day Works - Ensure submitted and signed by the client daily - day works always last resort since no EOT claim entitlement if work done on day works
    4. Daily Diary - to be submitted to the client daily for signature
    5. Site Instruction from client - sign for and ensure priced, agreed and work executed
    6. Confirmation of Verbal Instruction - write in site correspondence book and get client to sign. Ensure priced, agreed and work executed
    7. Site Records - ensure the site engineer records all work done that a drawing was not issued for and get engineer sign off when complete
  15. Quality -
    1. Conduct random quality checks on site filing system kept up to date by Document Controller
    2. Chair monthly site quality meetings
    3. Ensure quality risk management is implemented specifically with regards to suppliers and sub-contractors
  16. Industrial Relations -
    1. Chair monthly labour representative meetings
    2. Ensure labour representatives elected and appointed for each team
  17. Cost Reporting -
    1. Compile and present an accurate and meaning full cost report, including accurate forecast to completion
    2. Ensure a comprehensive stock take is undertaken at the last working day of the month
