An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Lead MEP Operations Director with a leading Contractor in Hong Kong


Project delivery

  • Conduct periodic project reviews with Project Managers & Project Directors and monitor actual timelines, resource utilisation, etc. against forecast on an on-going basis
  • Follow up with subordinates to investigate reasons for major deviations; Guide subordinates on corrective measures to address the same and steer the project back on track by minimizing delays and cost-overruns;
  • Provide direction and guidance on maximizing revenue, optimal resource utilization and monetizing work for cash flow management
  • Resolve escalations and proactively address client-related issues for managing relationships effectively

Commercial management

  • Conduct reviews on a periodic basis to assess health of projects, recovery measures and financial performance. Anticipate potential issues that could adversely impact commercial parameters (such as profitability, cash flow, etc.)
  • Resolve issues by coordinating and integrating the activities of internal functions and external parties (such as sub-contractors, equipment & service providers, etc.)
  • Report current status and forecast future project health to the top management of Leighton and the client
  • Verify that scope changes are appropriately notified and oversee resolution of commercial implications from such scope changes; Step in for client negotiations/discussions on high-impact scope changes
  • Direct and approve the sub-contracting strategy; Review recommendations of team on sub-contractors and approve the selection of final sub-contractors; Negotiate technical / commercial terms and conditions with sub-contractors on critical project tasks

HSE management

  • Understand internal HSE policies / procedures and also gain knowledge of local HSE regulations; Incorporate HSE best-practices and norms into the project's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Review the status of projects' compliance with HSE norms and guidelines and report the same to supervisor and other stakeholders; Intervene where there are deviations and track closure of non-compliances
  • Display commitment to HSE by communicating regularly and visibly on HSE procedures and best practices; Inculcate the safety culture and LAIO safety standards at sites; Oversee adoption of safety measures and safety practices through awareness, training, audits, etc.
  • React immediately to any untoward incident, communicate swiftly and transparently to senior management / stakeholders, take corrective actions to mitigate the situation; Direct independent and fair investigations into accidents and incorporate recommendations into the SOP of the project

Client management

  • Build high-levels of trust and engagement with senior representatives of the client organisations for strengthening on-going engagements
  • Seek regular feedback from current clients and participate in monthly / quarterly client meetings to update on project status
  • Anticipate clients' future needs, highlight Leighton's capabilities for such requirements and pursue opportunities for generating repeat business
  • Network at events, conferences etc. and strategically showcase Leighton's capabilities to potential clients; Explore opportunities of partnership and build relationships for meeting short-term and long-term objectives

People management

  • Select team members keeping mind technical requirements of the project as well as cultural and inter-personal aspects
  • Align goals, responsibilities and tasks of team-members across multiple functions and departments to the common goals of the project
  • Set stretch targets for the team across financial, customer, safety, quality and learning perspectives
  • Evaluate performance of subordinates, provide candid feedback and coach them to higher levels of performance
  • Train and mentor subordinates on technical as well as behavioural aspects of their respective roles
  • Provide opportunities to the team to develop their capabilities through job-rotation and increased delegation of responsibilities
  • Recognise and encourage high performing subordinates
  • Resolve issues faced by subordinates

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering discipline (mechanical or electrical or building services discipline is preferred); or equivalent professional qualifications with degree recognized by the Singapore Professional Engineer's Board
  • 15 years of experience in which at least 6 years of experience in the capacity of a senior management role for business delivery
  • Good knowledge of project management in M&E works
  • Strong knowledge of financial / business management
