Our 2015 partner charity is The Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team (AFPST)
This amazing charity has been set up to aid and accelerate the recovery of military personnel, by giving opportunity to try and learn adaptive skiing and snowboarding. Taking near novice snow sport athletes from the Help 4 Heroes and MOD funded ‘BattleBack’ programme, AFPST provides a programme of development and recovery for serving and retired members of the military that have given so much and just need a helping hand to cope with and conquer their adaptive challenge. Many of the top athletes go on to compete, with some under consideration for the British Paralympic team.
We made the decision to commit to partnering with AFPST as we were inspired by the fortitude and courage of the men and women who are coping with life changing trauma in such a humble way and turning their experience into a positive.
The Highfield Company agreed a focus on the foundations of the team. The initial months and years of the athletes in the programme are truly inspiring and the gains are tangible and life changing, so The Highfield Company pledged £15,000 to pay for:
£4000 – May and June UK snowdome sessions.
£7000 – July Landgraaf snowdome training week.
£4000 – August UK snowdome sessions.
At an Army training day in March 2016, the team from The Highfield Company were able to meet some of the High Performance Athletes, such as Paul Spanner and Jamie Weller as well as an inspirational story from Simon Harmer of Blown Away
